Default With the rain comes mud...

Well here in the UK its that time of the year again when instead of putting our beloved A's back into mothballs we dust them off and hit the countryside to sort the men out from the boys - https://hoits.smugmug.com/Motor-Spor...2015/Class-2a/

Must be a passenger requirement in the british race. 4 to a vehicle?
Nothing quite like a determined englishman.

Yes we need the extra ballast to get us through the mud as the art of the " bouncer" is grossly underestimated as without them progress would be severely limited. We also have a strict set of regulations that have to be adhered to. I hope you noted the Tudor SV 7556 of Chris Williams with the clockwork orange crew and smoke stack on the roof which doubles as exhaust pipe.

Jolly fine show... Appears 4WD, is not really needed with Model A...

I preferred the video we had of this event a while back. The stills don't show the importance of the furious but skillful bouncing that was required. Plus the video featured a really cute host!

It would be great to join these lads, but I would hate to be the one to later clean the car.

Yes a pint or two is obligatory afterwards and yes cleaning the beast afterwards is a real pain in the nether regions as power hoses are off limits for fear of doing more harm than good. A's are proving more and more popular , most of the LHD ones coming directly from the US complete with the 3.3 engine. My Phaeton SV 8778 is an import from Argentina and after a season trialing I think is hankering to get back there!

Hello Nosbod

Me and my Dad met up with the Binghams on the MAFCGB Northumbria Tour in 2010 who are keen triallists. I think this is their 30 Phaeton. Over a few beers they convinced me that I ought to have a go, but of course my 29 Pickup is not VSCC friendly being a commercial vehicle.

Are there any meets in the east of England? Most seem to be on the Welsh borders or even further north. Dad hasn't said that he'll lend me his Cabriolet, but then again he hasn't said he won't...

All the best

Juggs (aka Andrew Charlton, son of John)

This "trialing" is done without weather restrictions?
We called it "hill beasting" in southern california. The fire roads after a rain were as much fun as I could stand, Then only done with dry conditions. Way to tame for you all.

Hi Juggs, the VSCC trials are The Exemoor, Derbyshire,Hereford,Cotswold, Scottish and Lakeland so sadly nothing out east, probably too flat ! The weather is never a problem except one year when snow made the Exemoor impossible.

Hey Juggs,
Thanks for posting these events, ---- did you make it to Pendine sands this year?, ---- how about San Diego in February, I am sure dad will be there, maybe his beard has grown back so I wont miss him this time.
Regards Brian.

Nosbod - Suffolk isn't really that flat. I know because I used to ride trials bikes and enduros and there are plenty of those events around here but nothing for older cars, at least sponsored by the VSCC. Plenty of 4x4 trials for Landrovers, Jeeps and their asian cousins also.

Brian - yes I'll be at San Diego this Spring by hook or by crook. Got to sell my Woody and one of the motorbikes to fund the trip, but I can't miss another. Will be at or about Sammy's stall. My little brother is getting married in the Summer and Dad and his beard have separate invites, with strict caveat that one can't attend without the other so we live in hope of a return.

Pendine duly attended this year. It was wet. 700 mile round trip in the 29 CCPU (plenty hills on the way esp the A40 through the Brecons) but weather was bloody awful so only one run each on the Saturday and Sunday. Sunday so wet the organizers (VHRA) decided to let the 4 cylinder cars test the course first. Bit special having them all together at the top

Only managed mid 60's compared to near as dammit 70mph in 2013 but still the best fun. Run back with everybody else at the end of the day still my favorite bit

https://youtu.be/tlJhWp-IxCE

Hope to see you February

Cheers

Juggs

From an earlier post of mine, here's how the Kiwis do it. I'd fly across the Tasman in a heart beat to do this run. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7WxWpGVlZc
Then there's this mob https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4O95p_7ah8
If you have the time, watch a few of these clips. I can vouch for the fact that these guys do this stuff regularly. Too much fun!

The poor chaps in the closed cars have less chances of bouncing their cars out of the mud boggs than those in the open cars! too much fun!!!!
