Floor mat 36 ford

What color front floor mat is used in a 36 ford convertable, Benton gray or black. The car is Washington blue with drown leather interior

Jacob, As per page 44 of The 1935-36 Ford Book, 1936 floor mats were tan for the first month of 36 production and Benton Gray thereafter thru the remander of 36 production.

Thank you. I was wondering why they made a reproduction in black if that was not a orginal color. Both Mac and Carpenter have Black. Carpenter says they have Taupe but when I called on it they said it was Benton gray. Mac has the Benton gray. Wish I could get the tan over the Benton gray Thanks again

It was in the car when I bought it. There are a few places that sell them. I've seen the ads, just can't remember the names LoL I'll look and if I find a place I'll let you know - Pat

I have bought black mats when the correct color was not available. I used a Vinyl paint made by SEM for auto interiors to paint the mat to the desired color.

For years the only reproduction mats available for '36s, '37s, etc. only came in taupe or tan. As Don indicates, that's not the correct color for the vast majority of '36s and all '37s, which should be Benton Gray. The photo below is of a SEM-painted '37 mat in Benton Gray.

Thanks for the info. I did not know about the paint. Does any one have a photo of the tan floor in there car. I have a an early 36 car but I do not know if it is with in the first month. There is brown carpeting in it now but it is in bad shape. The back floor is in good shape.

Jacob, Pg 4 of The 1935-36 Ford Book gives you a list of production numbers by month. You can use that to approximate when your car was built. Also look for dates on any original window glass that you might have.

My window glass says 8 35 on all the windows, I will have to check the chassis

The photo below on the left is a taupe (tan) reproduction '36 phaeton rear mat. It seemed that no two of the reproductions matched exactly color-wise and this is one of the darker ones. The other photo is not a '36 mat, but its color is far more representative of the vast majority of '32-'39 reproduction mats, most of which are no longer available.

Attached is the SEM paint I have used for the Taupe color. It is a little lighter than what I believe to be correct but SEM does have one that is a shade darker. I tend to prefer this color.

I checked the numbers on my car 182256584 is the manufacturers serial number. Am I right to say the car was made in September of 35 and the tan floor mates would be the right color
