Default Rear axle end play

I have a 1927 Coupe the axle was rebuilt before buying it. I spoke with the very knowlegable previous owner. I did an axle check just to be thorough while working on rear wheels. I have no play on the Driver's axle however with a dial caliper I found that I have .020" play with the RH axle. I was wondering what the limitations are for the play if there is an issue that needs addressed or if it is fine. There is no noise, concerns or anything just the play that I noticed. I want to be thorough especially considering the importance the rear end plays in braking!

Thanks for the input.

In and out laterally. If you are staring directly at the axle shaft end and you push in and then pull out. I measured it with my dial indicator.

I was doing a check on a friend's work on his '26 some time ago and noticed that he had not put the fiber spacer on the end of the axle shafts. I am not sure however that it would cause the problem you are seeing. However it might be important to be sure it is there as it is frequently forgotten I have heard.

.020" is nothing. I would not worry about that. Likely the fiber washer is dissolved. Very common, use a brass one next time it is apart.
