Here is a fact of life: A LOT of people buy according to price. Another fact of life for a business is this: Your inventory has to appeal to everybody possible.
How many stores have you been in that have only one level of quality on the shelf? (That are still in business).

Lighten up.

FWIW: Just another experience to add to above reply #40:

Self employed, successful businessmen in "any" business, usually do one thing that regular employed employees usually do "not" do ............. i.e., think.

We all know that cheap things bought will "not" last .............. however, anyone ever try giving a lecture on "Quality" to the normal, extremely long line of customers we see "everywhere" waiting at a cash register in a "DOLLAR STORE".

Also, every small town has quite a few rich folks and millionaires ....... want to say Hello to a local millionaire ....... just take a trip to the "DOLLAR STORE" ...... his shopping basket is usually always full ...... just another lesson in life to share.

I understand what my good friend H.L. is saying but I think there is more to it than that, all of which is extraneous to this thread, I confess. It seems to me the American economy and the culture connected with it really got skewered following the inflation cycle connected with the 1970s.
Small business and craftsmanship never really recovered from the onslaught of mass marketing/box stores; wages never really stayed equal with inflation. we became more of a replace-rather-than-repair economy. manufacturing jobs that used to pay decent wages for semi-skilled labor, and provided a stepping-stone for middle-class families, are gone. The scenario goes on, but this explains in part why us older folks are so nostalgic for the society we grew up in.

Hi ericr,

I think many people on this Forum may "sneak" into a "DOLLAR STORE" now and then ...... and try to do so unnoticed ....... who wants to be caught actively shopping for "anything" at 80% OFF at a local nearby "DOLLAR STORE."

Every now and then, I visit a few ...... but be careful ..... it is always so easy to go almost broke saving money ....... have to admit I always smile when I meet some of the richest people in town shopping. LOL

My wife's usual comment when coming home from the fabric store is: "But it was 50% off!"

There are several sources for non-alcohol gas in my town of 14,000 and it is about $1 more per gallon. It is also 91 octane instead of 87 like the ethanol gas. The Model A does not need the higher octane but I use it because that gas is what I want. So I pay the higher price for about 7 gallons which is about $7 extra. It cost me two precious beers. But then I hop in my Model A and drive off happy. Priceless!

Did you buy the gas from Brattons, or Macs?

Try this: Get a group of 10 people; the first one tells the next one a statement, asking him to repeat to the next person.

Then ask Number 10 what he was told, and you will get another statement completely different from the original.

Snyder's has the best gas..

It's been said that a woman will pay $5 for a $10 item that she does not need because it is on sale, and that a man will pay $10 for a $5 item that he needs right now.

I am not wealthy, and now that I am retired, I am in the poverty class, but I buy acording to quality, not price.

Your milage may vary.

S & H Green stamps? I just thought of when my mom would save those up. Don't remember what she'd redeem them on. That's been a while.

My wife has 'reconciled' many a purchase with "it was on sale"!

Neither one. I get my gas from Rick's.
My Model A parts come from Mike's Affordable.

I remember the green stamps and the green stamp store. Free dishes and glasses also when we got gas. How about the free toaster at the Bank?? The "good old days".

Brattons(pictures 1-2): correct nickel plated dust cover and correctly shaped rim nut/bushing.

Macs (pictures 3-4): cheap looking chromed dust cover and incorrectly shaped rim nut/bushing

Brattons: correct valve cap

Macs: incorrect cheap valve cap

Brattons: arrived completely assembled

Macs: arrived as a box of parts - you are on your own.

The bottom of the rim nuts can't be seen, but the dust covers and valve caps can, so I'll have to replace them. There goes the money I "saved" on the Macs sale!

I've gotten some parts from Snyder's that I feel were not worth the postage. Most recently a pair of cowl light arms that were not even close to fitting my stock cowl lights or even the base plates that I bought from Snyder's.
As a regular customer of Snyder's, I was shocked and disappointed that they would sell these items. By the way the Brand is Vintique, a company that I try to NOT buy from. I guess I should have asked but I never thought Snyder's would sell this crap.

If I had wanted Vintique junk I would have bought it from CW Moss for $20 cheaper.

Hence sometimes "pretty bad gas..."

To their credit I should add that Snyder's said I could return them. Unfortunately I had already ground part of the mount off to even get them to fit in the holes in my cowl before I noticed that the holes in the arms didn't line up with the holes in the light.
