Default A mix of a small confession and a little Model A related..m

We all like to save money. We all know you get what you pay for.. Most of the time.

Harbor Freight. Ahh, yes. Buy something and you can get some AA batteries FREE! Most of us use our computer to get on the Barn. Here's a story about something that I got free and backfired.

Please. No insults about my knowledge level about what I sit on, or other connotations of my days in grade school. OK, here's what happened. It might even help some..

Some time ago, my mouse's batteries went south. Aha! I got some "new" Harbor Freight AA batteries! Put them in the mouse and all was well. For less than a day.

Here's the operating details. Mouse started to act funny. Cursor would not move. Computer seemed the gradually slow down to then point where it would almost stop making logging out almost impossible.

Yer right. Junk batteries. Got on the Net; asked about best AAs, was told the new lithium batteries by Energizer Ultimate are the ones.

Hoisted up the Prime flag and got some. Stuck em in and Walla! Nice to see all commands are honored. In a very timely manner. Still chuggin along..

Not a Chemical Engineer, but the HF batteries must be made from used Cat food.

So, anyone having similar brain farts can try my solution. None of which I understand.

Heavy duty batteries are made up of zinc carbon. They dont hold thier voltage as they drain. Alkalines are a totally different make up that hold thier voltage for longer before they die. Lithium is even better at holding its voltage for almost all of its life then drops like a rock. Some devices like your mouse require a certian voltage to properly function. Those heavy duty batteries are about only good for flashlights.

I use the freebie HF batteries also . A note as to what to look for next time you want to use / get some . On the batteries , look for the year date on the end of them , that is the farthest out , [ the date they are supposed to be good till ] , and get those . Yes they are cheap batteries , but these will be the newest in stock they have , and for free what you gonna loose ?

Just remember, don't get your pacemaker batteries from a discount store.

I've never replaced the batteries in the "mouse", but I do clean the lint out of it every once in a while, when it starts to act up.
I never thought to look for batteries in it.

I agree that the cheap or free batteries from Harbor Freight are not very good . I reccomend buying the higher priced batteries from a different store . I have had real good luck with Duracell batteries . I have mostly had good luck with the tools and other things that I have bought from Harbor Freight . I had no issues when I took back a small battery charger that didn.t work and that is the only problem that I ever had with anything that I ever purchased there . I got a full refund with no questions asked . No harm meant . Just my experience with Harbor Freight .

Not all computer mice require batteries. Only the ones that are cordless. If the mouse has a tail, no batteries required. And yes you must use good batteries in the cordless mice as there is a led in there and it wakes up when touched. So the drain on the battery is always there when in use.

I like those small free LED pocket flashlights from H/F, but to make them much better you need to do 2 simple things:
Apply grease to 9 places: each end of the 3 batteries, each end of the battery holder, and the threads on the end cap.
As soon as the LED's start to dim, get rid of the Cheap China Crap batteries (better known as 3C batteries), and install good ones.

I made the mistake of buying the 48 pack of AAA batteries at Costco. I only used a few before the expiration date and they started to leak. Better to buy a smaller pack.

Duracell’s have a 10 year shelf life. I haven’t had a problem using them before they expire. Not so with the Kirkland brand.

I was taught many years ago to keep new ones in the freezer, they keep forever, just like photographic film does.

From what I've read recently, this is another urban myth that's been debunked.

Seems like my post has turned out to be a schooling on battery choices and life span. It was intended to help those who experience erratic wireless computer keyboard and mouse caused by junk AA batteries.

But it appears like no one else has the bad battery anomalies. Tried..
