Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
Hi,
When driving a modern car I can keep the heel of my foot in the floor and bend my foot forwards for acceleration. The linkage is made in such a way that a normal sized foot naturally follows the travel of the pedal. In a model A I feel I can only use the throttle pedal if I lift my entire foot from the floor in order to press the pedal. It is quite annoying, especially if you need to do a lot of driving in town. My leg never rests. This is due to the fact that the pedal does not follow the natural motion of the heel rested foot. There is a lot of friction between the foot and the throttle pedal and thus I am not in a "smooth" control of the pedal. You probably all know what I mean. Am I driving the model A wrongly, do I have to bend something, is there an upgrade kit ... or something else? Lucas |

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
Does your A have the stock foot-rest mounted next to the throttle?

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
If for some reason the pedal is too high from the floor board, your foot is not at a comfortable angle. Try playing around with the linkage length but make sure you get full throttle before the pedal bottoms on the floor. Worked for me.

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
You put your foot on the foot rest, and then role your foot to the left for the throttle, easy.

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
Yes, your foot and the throttle do swing in opposite arcs, but I have never found it to be a problem. You could fasten a thin piece of steel plate to a hinge and screw the hinge to the wood floorboard, then both would swing in the same arc. Put a little grease where the round pedal hits the steel plate.

You might try one of these that the vendors offer:

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
I also roll my foot to the left while resting it on the foot rest. See link below for video clip of how I do it. Let me know if the link does not work.

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
Hey Lucas,
I found that removing the 'foot rest', and installing a metal plate....keeps the pedal rod in center of hole thru floorboard and works more like other cars I drive. You've experienced a 'situation/problem', IMO, that a lot experience. The foot rest is very uncomfortable, especially if you have leg problems..rolling leg/foot to left. |

wear hard leather sole shoes,

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
Do the same and works OK for me also. But need to maybe adjust the foot rest to the correct height.

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
I find the original Ford design very comfortable. All the angles are just right, but that''s just me.

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
Yep, just adjust the rest to a comfortable height that works and the heel never leaves the floor. Living on the west coast of California (and not going into an office anymore) I wear flip-flops 90% of the time. I quickly downshift going into all right turns and many left turns. Never an issue!

Re: Throttle pedal not convenient for accelerating
Do you have a picture or diagram of how you accomplished this?
