Have a 47 car and was wondering where the best way to place to get power to my heater ? Do I just get power from the ignition switch or from some other source ?

do not take the power off the "coil" side of the ign switch. I went back to the circuit breaker under the dash and then routed it thru a fuse to the heater

With the switch turn on, would that make the heater only work when the ignition is in the on position or on all the time ?

Any problems with the power being hook up to the ignition switch ?

Heater and fans are high current users, why would you want to attempt to connect them to the ignition switch? The ignition switch is not designed to handle high current loads.

Just had a thought, how would you hook it up if a person wanted the heater to only work when the ignition was on ?

Relays, just like a fuel pump or something. Relays are handy little things for this type of stuff. Use a wire from the ignition switch as the trigger wire.

Here are the 1945 instructions, see the paragraph on switch connections. It tells you to connect to the red and black wire on the fuse block so the heater will only go when ignition is on. If you need this in higher resolution send me your email address and I can email it to you.

It sure does say that!! The Red/Black wire is the wire from the ignition switch to the resistor on the fuse panel. I don't think that is a good idea at all!!! But, this is what the instructions say.

They say to connect to the Red/Black wire on the ignition switch for the Ford and to the fuse panel on the Merc.
