Re: 1938 Deluxe vs 1939 Satandard Nose
Yes, I believe that they are the same except for the trim attachment holes in the grill "teeth" and the side where they attach to the fenders. One note; I do believe that the '38 Deluxe and '39 Standard hoods do differ in more than just the stainless trim holes. I had one of each and in comparison, the '38 was just a bit narrower in front where the hood meets the grill's chrome center piece (the "beak" of the hood). I don't know if there is a difference in the width of the separate hood sides.

Re: 1938 Deluxe vs 1939 Satandard Nose
Thanks 39wagon, I saw a hood at Hershey and it did look wider than I'd remembered others, years ago want i didn't want one. Looking at the "Blue" and "Tan" photos I can see there are trim holes and no trim holes that should help ID one from the other. Bob

Re: 1938 Deluxe vs 1939 Satandard Nose
Hi All,
I am new to the forum as of yesterday and this post is of special interest to me. Look at the pics of my recently acquired 1938 Fordor Deluxe. Yes, it is a '38, s/n 184375559. It appears to have the hood side panel trim of a 1939 Standard, as well as the grille trim, yet the hood nose trim and release itself are definitely 1938. Plus the left hand hood hinge does not have the "support bracket ". The car has 45,700 miles and is all original including original paint. I'm open to any thoughts. Another pic. For some reason I can only attach one pic at a time.

Nice car. You could easily change it back to a 38 Ford Deluxe by changing the Side Panels. they are the main differences. No need to remove the extra Chrome Trim on the Grille. It has the correct 38 Deluxe Hubcaps. I would look out for replacement Side Panels. |

I like the looks of it the way it is. It does have the 39 Std grille and side panels

Re: 1938 Deluxe vs 1939 Satandard Nose
Thanks for the comments guys. It's a truly sweet car and was a great find, I will leave it as is. Now that I understand the differences I see the changes as part of the history of the particular car.
Mercman, thanks for all the great pictures showing the differences in the '38 models. Chris Last edited by Deluxe38; 12-25-2015 at 01:02 AM. |

Re: 1938 Deluxe vs 1939 Satandard Nose
I am changing a 38 DeLuxe Woody to a 39 standard, due to my preference. I like the nose piece and hood trim better on the 39. I have all the parts. I do have a mint 38 DeLuxe grille with an excellent center trim piece that will be for sale. Also have 2 39 Standard grilles extra, both very nice. PM me if anyone has an interest.

No stainless side trim on the 39 standard grille.

Re: 1938 Deluxe vs 1939 Satandard Nose
Check out these two beauties. From the front, these two Coupes, the Blue 1938 Ford Deluxe and the Maroon 1939 Ford Standard look very similar. However, from the rear, they are totally different. The Rain Gutter is repositioned on the 1939 model, and it also inherits a larger Trunk Lid. Both of these cars are recent imports into Australia, as this body style was never offered locally. |

Re: 1938 Deluxe vs 1939 Satandard Nose
I never realized there was such a differance in the trunk area. It looks like the trim had to be lowered in 39 to clear the trunk lid by the time it ran from the front to rear.

Re: 1938 Deluxe vs 1939 Satandard Nose
I have a very rusted out 40 ford coupe that I am lowering the top on and putting on a 1938 standard nose . I think the 38 standard nose is a art deco design that just stands out.
