Default 32 hood prop made in gt britain

Took a bit of head scratching and doing but here's my solution to an apparently insolvable problem; thus enabling one to fully open the hood and have a mechanism which looks more in keeping than the after-market bolt on kit.

All comments appreciated and I can take it on the chin !

Before you ask.....no chance of damaging louvre No 7 (from the front)

Is that a touch up aerosol on the ground to paint in the chips?

A touch-up aerosol ? ......do I detect I hint of "I want one and sorry for doubting you whilst you've been slogging away in your workshop" ?

All joking aside, very ingenius and impressive. I can stop watching for a post on the Wanted ads now for a replacement hood side.

Hi there, Yes, not bad but you can only put one side of the hood up at a time. Guess you would not need it to be too windy either ! I prefer the one that bolts across the radiator rods, as it allows both sides up together when required. Regards, Kevin.

Thanks Kevin !

Rarely would I need to have both sides up at the same time; besides as previously stated, I want to work on the car without bashing my head; thus problem solved.
You may not agree with me but I believe this method looks more like part of the car
as opposed to a "bolt-on".

Wind not an issue as I use my workshop.

I looks like one could devise a "hidden" bracket that mounts to the inside of the hood side opposite the handle or female latch piece into which the rod fits. This would eliminate the potential for scraping paint or bending a louver.

Mike, good point and I did consider that but was reluctant to
drill, glue or in any way molest the hood panel.

See the photo.....the forked end locates in to the louvre and where it fits I've laid a piece of shiny black insulation tape.

The forks are made of aluminium and are coated 0.040" thick
with black nylon. Believe me.....it works !

Importantly, it's been an enjoyable project and I have satisfied my requirement for something which I needed; does work and if for any reason I don't like it; it's removed in a jiffy. Chances are it'll stay put...

tiger.1000 nice job.....I like it. I have the bolt across but they sure are ugly looking. Yours is much cleaner and looks like it could have come with the car.

Congratulations! You did it! What is the purpose of the copper tubing and brass fittings between the cyl head and the radiator tank?

Thanks for the praise ! There was I thinking I'd broken all the rules !

The copper tubing.....I think I opened a thread on this sometime back......fill up the radiator and drive the car. Coolant expands and when it cools it contracts and generally speaking the level is BELOW the top of the radiator. So I removed the rear fixing bolt from the water pump, machined a sight glass assembly out of brass. The small bore copper tube then vents in to the top of the radiator tank.

Open the bonnet (hood) and you have a quick visual check
and off you go !

Simple really !

If anyone's seriously interested I'll load some more pictures of it on this thread.

Tiger, beautiful car, great idea with the bonnet prop and clever trick with the sight glass ....you realise that now you will get ten pages of people telling you that the copper will break ha ha.....
