1935 3 window coupe outer door handles
My driver side door handle broke off on my 35 Coupe so I purchased a reproduction set. They will not slide in all the way.
My originals have a recess cut in the edges of the squared shaft near the end that goes into the door. The repros do not. This difference prevents the new handles from going all the way in since the originals go in so far then have to be rotated slightly to go the rest of the way in. Am I supposed to file the recesses into the reproduction handles? I also tried purchasing one from ebay that appeared correct in the photo but it's shaft is approx an inch longer than my original so it won't work either. Thanks. Daryl

Re: 1935 3 window coupe outer door handles
Daryl, I have a '36 coupe and had the same problem. I wanted original handles, and I ended up with a collection before I found a nice pair that fit. I believe that the shaft lengths and notches differed depending on the body style.
If you want to use the reproduction it will need to be modified to fit. I think the 3W coupe had a chrome handle, but I found a pair of steel handles with stainless skin for mine- they fit well and look great after being polished at a stainless repair shop. Scott |

I'll modify the repros & keep an eye out for some originals.
