Accelerator foot rest
While driving my '39 pickup, I'm not smooth with my gas petal applications. I'm 6';3". I try and turn my right foot sideways to use the foot rest to no avail. This works well in my 30 Model A. I don't see a better idea?

Re: Accelerator foot rest
This is the small bracket which acts as a foot rest on my Australian RHD 1934 Ford Phaeton. It is bolted on floor next to Accelerator. Works well. |

Re: Accelerator foot rest
Clem, I have the one that mounts on the floor board to the right of the Gas pedal if you need one. It is adjustable and worked fine for me on my 32. Just let me know. kerk

Re: Accelerator foot rest
I have an installed mushroom, just like the one on my Model A. It's top is level with the spoon. Ms. Sandy reminds me that I wire-tided both the seat and back springs down to give me more room. It is the angle of my foot that bothers me.
I bought the seat set at a car flea market the two pieces are hinged together and the owner said it was for a 39 pickup. Last edited by Clem Clement; 10-21-2020 at 09:10 AM. |

Re: Accelerator foot rest
What is the proper adjustment for the “rest assembly (accelerator foot” )Ford part #9716)? [common name :”mushroom.”].
On my Model A the accelerator cap plus rubber cover is 1/2” higher than the mushroom height. It is comfortable to rest my right two toes on. I can easily roll my right foot to the left and smoothly operate the accelerator pedal. On my 1939 Ford pickup the mushroom height is level with the accelerator spoon. I’m having trouble placing my foot correctly and smoothly rolling my foot. I Intend to free the adjustment nut and make a change. Clem |

Re: Accelerator foot rest
Hi Lawson, Yes, that Accelerator Rest Bracket is stock on 1934 Fords. It really helps with long distance driving.

Re: Accelerator foot rest
As I remember the aftermarket rest I purchased for my '38 was taller than the stock one that was on my truck. The foot rests are kind of goofy looking but they actually work great. I get a lot of questions about what its for.

Re: Accelerator foot rest
I'm told the foot rest should be 3/8" below the gas pedal.

Re: Accelerator foot rest
I love the spoon peddle and stock footrest setup in both 32 and 34 Fords. The spoon peddle (stock style linkage, not an aftermarket cable version) is by far the best setup I've used . . . especially if you have a really snotty engine, big cam and the engine isn't quite warmed up. I can apply the brake as well as roll my foot to goose the accel peddle a bit (to keep it from stalling). This is so natural to me that I'm going to put this same setup in all future HotRods - it just works! Thanks Henry!

Re: Accelerator foot rest
This report is from Ron Ehrenhofer Technical Committee chairman, MARC. His answer surely makes good sense.
Thanks Ron. "Clem, good to hear from you. I do not know of any tip on how to adjust the foot rest on your A in the Service bulletins. I just bought another Model A and I found the foot rest adjustment was way off for my foot so I recently went through this scenario. I adjust it so at 45 mph my foot is generally flat or level and that is about 3/8" above the foot rest. You need to adjust for your comfort" |

Re: Accelerator foot rest
38-39 has a post foot rest like the model a's. my suggestion is to put it higher then idle and wear a smaller shoe if it's an issue.

Reassembled and tested. Seems better. It is a little cranky when cold. Thanks All.
