46 pickup tube shock conversion advice

Just bought these vintage tube shock adapter brackets for our 46 Ford pickup. They look like they will do the job perfectly but I was wondering if anyone out there had a photo of these installed and perhaps knew what particular shock to buy that would work correctly.?? Thanks!

They install in the same holes where the stock shocks were located. I'm not sure if those are correct for your pickup. Those look like the ones for the earlier passenger cars and your frame and front suspension are different..

You may also need to make a modification for the lower mount, usually a shackle kit with extended bolts. Easiest answer for shocks would probably be the Pete and Jakes tube shocks available at many of the vintage ford dealers. But, you want to check for total length and travel. With those measures you can search for shocks from any manufacturer, but you may have to find an old time parts guy, or a catalog to do a manual search, as most of the parts people now can only supply parts base upon OEM Year, Make and Model specs.

I used the Pete and Jakes Bolt on Front Shock Kit on my 1941 1/2 ton pickup. They have two different shocks available, one has 11.5" to 7.25" length extended to collapsed eye to eye, the other has 14.25" to 9.25" length. Complete kit comes with upper bracket, shocks and new shackles for bottom mount

remove the old shock, measure the bolt holes cl to cl of both the shock mount holes and the adapter brackets. the trucks have a wider bolt hole measurement than cars-you can weld up a hole and redrill-that is what I did. the lower mount will go thru the original shock mount location on the axle-drill or grind out to 1/2", I use shock from the front of a chevy van from the 70's to early 80's. some of these come with the lower stud already mounted, others do not -studs are available on the self help stands in most auto parts stores---sorry don't have any pictures

If the eye of the shock and mount do not match, there are also metal sleeves which can be inserted into the shock eye, again available in the misc hardware bin at you auto parts store. I did not have a welding set up...

I just bought a set of tube shocks to covert my 46 pickup from Rock auto ,I think the fitment was for a 53-56 ford pickup.

I found four originals online for my 46 in great working condition,for about the cost of rebuilding one , just needed to sandblast and paint. Only problem I had was trying to find correct bushings but ended up making my own which came out great !
