Probably in the neighborhood of 7 hp for just the carb.

can't tell you in hp but changing from the A carb to an 81 (smaller than the 48) improved my time by a full second in a hill climb.

Is there anything else that can improve a model b engine performance?
I am afraid to change the head, worry about bad or rusted studs... I don;t know if i would have that problem, but usually things don't go smoothlywhen working on an 80 year old engine. How about a more efficient water pump??
