Default Broken rear brake adjuster

I finally got the rear drum off with the help of a puller bought from Winfield.
The truck has been garaged over 20 years with the emergency brake on.......everything was frozen solid. In my attempt to use the adjuster bolts on the rear plate to release the brakes, I ended up breaking off one of the adjuster bolts. This is the bolt with the heavy spring under it. I looked in the Joblot book and the C&G book but can't seem to find the part to order. Does anyone know where I can get these parts? It's for a 47 1/2 ton p/u. Many thanks

It is never supposed to come off. So Ford didn't make repair parts. Luckey for you the entire backing plate is fairly common, just remove the bolts holding it to the axle housing, brake line, brake and parking brake parts and replace with another backing plate. You will have to find the correct side and fronts differ from rears. 46-8 car and light commercial are the same. Make sure the other wheel adjusters work before buying just one.

Tanks for the info. I knew it was bad news when it snapped off.

Doesn't your pickup have an open drive? If so it has a different backing plate than a car. The emergency cable is sheathed so it doesn't use the conduits like a passenger car but the cable connection like a mechanical 37-38 setup.

If you can't find another correct backing plate, you can repair your old one, particularly if the "bolt" just broke off of the backing plate. I have replace a broken adjustor fwith another bolt and spring by clamping the coil spring and bolt into the backing plate and welding the bolt into the slotted hole.

None of the regular parts places have backing plates listed for a 47 1/2 ton truck. Your idea sounds like it iwould be worth a try. Many thanks
