Re: Cam for the 1949 flathead
Much more info. needed. Don't be afraid to use the SEARCH function. Tons of info.
Actually, the stock cam is good if you are building a stock engine. |

Use the 8CM Merc cam for a good street engine.

Re: Cam for the 1949 flathead
Changing to an aftermarket cam can be expensive. Over 500 bucks with adj lifters. The EAB or EAC cam can be used with stock lifters. if you can find some one th adj them. For street use the Max #1 works well. Don't get carried away with valve spring pressure. .060" shim under stock springs is more than necessary. KISS

Re: Cam for the 1949 flathead
Having the originals is. Only half the battle. Now you have to find someone who know how to set the proper clearance. They have to work with the same style valves, as the length varies. I thought you had the lifters. Di you have the valves??

Re: Cam for the 1949 flathead
Be sure you get the STEEL ones with the 2 small 5/32 holes in the side.
NOT the ones with elongated slots. Those are cast iron. There are plenty around and a shop that does flatheads can do a set in the same time as a set of adjustables. |
