Threaded stud next to the accelerator?
Yes...It's a bloody stupid question. My apologies in advance for ignorance. With that out of the way, what purpose does the threaded adjustment to the right of the accelerator on a '39 pickup actually serve?

Re: Threaded stud next to the accelerator?
There should be a "button" on that stud that you rest the right side of your foot on and throttle is "adjusted" by twisting your foot. Makes holding throttle steady while cruising easier. Your foot can slide off the rest when needed for "gross" throttle changes, such as when shifting gears, etc.

Driving a spoon-throttle Ford with no footrest can be very tiring and clumsy...it is meant to be used with your foor resting on the little mushroom.

Re: Threaded stud next to the accelerator?
First time I drove the Model A without the pad I gave it gas and let the clutch out. The car jumped forward which took my foot off the gas. That slowed the car down and my foot mashed the gas. The surge took my foot off the gas, etc. etc. Looked like I'd never driven a stick before.
In the old days these were especially helpful with the rough roads and fields you would drive that pickup on. |
