39 Trans in a 32 - Clutch Arm Question
Just getting ready to put a 39 trans in my 32. The clutch arms on the cross-shaft are obviously different. The 32 is a bit longer and has a bend in it. The 39 is shorter and just goes out at an angle.
Does one need to put the 32 clutch release arm on the 39 trans for it to align and work? I can "fix" my 39 trans - as I have a 32 trans to pull the arm from. The real question is IF it is necessary - and if I don't do it, will the linkage still line up and work (from the clutch) pedal . . . or is there any other issue to consider? I'm sure the clutch peddle pressure will be a bit higher with the 39 arm - but I was used to it in my 34 coupe, so that doesn't bother me much. I was hoping to NOT make the swap - and leave my 32 trans intact, but if it is necessary - better to do it now than once all this crap is in the chassis. Thanks! |

Re: 39 Trans in a 32 - Clutch Arm Question
I have a '39 trans behind an 8BA in my '32. I ordered the '32 clutch release arm from Mac Van Pelt. In order for the linkage coming off my '32 pedals to line up with the release arm, I had to use the '32 release arm. Being at work (Hah!) I have no pictures but, would be like to post tonight if it will help you out.

Re: 39 Trans in a 32 - Clutch Arm Question
A sketch I made a while back showing both arms. I would find an arm and modify it per sketch.

Re: 39 Trans in a 32 - Clutch Arm Question
Thanks guys . . . I figured it was a necessity and I don't want to screw with the stock pedals/linkage setup - so I will go swipe it out of another 32 trans I have and update my 39 box - BEFORE I put it in the chassis!
You guys saved me some time - much appreciate it! D |
