They appear to be original restored with the round top 3. The reproductions
have a flat top 3.

Those 3X plugs that sold look really good. That is an excellent price considering the flat top "3" reproduction plugs sell for about $35.00 each.

Original 3X plugs sell for a lot of $$$ if they are in excellent condition. These original restored plugs are probably what you noticed on eBay. They are necessary for fine point judging, so as not to loose any points. They are quite rare. They have the rounded 3, verses the newer 3X with the flat part of the 3 on the upper part of them. There are a couple of subtle other differences between the old original plugs and the newer ones available now. Newer 3X plugs with the flat 3, are normally about $25 per plug.

$294! Holy smoke. I have a set of 4 Period Champion C-5 plugs still in their tin. Maybe I should list them but my ebay account was hacked and I can't remember my new password - not that I like ebay anyway.

I've got a set of 4 Champion C-4 plugs brand new in their original boxes I can't seem to sell. I love the original 3X plugs in have installed in my truck. Never had a problem in 8 years running them.

those plugs have the original 3X porcelains but the bases are early C4`s also the far right base is different than the other three. not worth the price, over the years I have restored many 3X`s and normally sold a set of four for $200 plus shipping. here is a couple pictures of my stash. also i might add i have run original 3X plugs in my Victoria for over 30 years

Wow...I bought a 3X for 10.50 (E-bay), told the guy I only need three more now, so he asked if I wanted three more, of course I said "sure", he sold me three more for $20, all brand new still in the box.
I guess when the stars line up, you don't question it, the universe must have wanted me to have them.
This was about two years ago, only put them in when I was at the car shows, took them out before I headed home, kind of afraid to use them because I know I will never get them at that price again.

Yes the bases were not 3X, too short.

In the interest of marketing, this plug and box might show Champion in a transition period with Model A plugs. This NOS 3X has the rounded 3, but the later base with the smooth, non knurled strip at the bottom.

I don't think any of the plugs had that lower strip knurled, just the round part beneath the hex.

Just because the plugs have original porcelains doesn't mean that they have connectivity. That's the risk you take buying them on an auction site. You don't know if they'll work. I must have 50 plus original porcelains with no connectivity. They look great but useless if you want to run them.

I find it interesting (according to this picture) that the box for the original 3X Plugs have a "3" with a flat top and the Repro plugs have a box with a "3" with a round top??

I was only speaking of the sides of the base, not the bottom of the head contacting surface. My photo is a bit dark, sorry.
