Default Brass gas tank float for Model A

Where could you find them? There was another thread that mentioned brass floats from Reelee Kotas in San Diego, CA. Doing a couple of Internet searches couldn't find them. Does anyone have contact information or know of another source?

At a full tank of gas and at a near empty tank, does the brass float make noise banging against the tank?

Does the tube go completely through the brass float?

I had a brass float--- it cracked, sunk, now have a modern plastic float salvaged from modern car fuel pump unit--- nice round ball that fit my arm perfectly--- the brass float lasted 15 years

I also use the modern plastic float.
I worked on a guy's MoPar in the 80's and his brass carb float kept cracking.

Out of curiosity, does anyone have a favorite plastic float that works well?

I've had my share of problems with brass floats too, but it is probably a lot better than cork.

Hey Bob,
I put in a brass float about 10 years ago and it works perfectly. Don't know why a brass float would 'crack', unless it was defective when installed.

A brass float from most any carburetor , like Stromberg , will do. My brass float was from one of my spare strombergs. I soldered the float rod to the length of the float. Works great, and no noise. Solder the rod onto the top of float.

Bob,
Yes, when the tank is full I get a little noise now and then. Have not run the tank that close to empty to get any noise.
Reen's phone number is 858-278+8178
Yes, the tube goes thru the float.

Yes, I don't know why the brass just suddenly cracks, but sometimes it does. In the early 80's I bought a brass tube with 1/4" I.D. and a sheet of brass new from the hobby store. I made a funnel to fill tranny gear oil into my BMW. In the spring I found the tube was cracked, and had no idea why it would crack over the winter while hanging on the wall.

As far as the plastic float, I worked at the junk yard and brought home several plastic floats, and anything close to the shape and length is fine.

What’s wrong with the neoprene float? I’ve had one for around 10 years.

I would be afraid of the brass float rubbing on the top of the tank when the tank is full. Over time, wouldn't it wear a hole in the float? I use the plastic one the vendors sell, no problems in 8 years

I'm getting ready to replace a cork float from a A-9320-S kit from Little Dearborn which lasted only 9mths with either a foam, neoprene or brass float.
Question-My previous float set-up, which lasted 22 yrs, did not have a retaining washer and therefore neither did my 'new' set-up as the float wire did not protrude thru the cork float.
I see I would not need a retaining washer on a new brass float.

Question-How about the new foam or neoprene floats?

Most dealers carry Neoprene ones, may need to trim for length in order for wire to protrude enough to get end washer on , Done lots ,

Thanks quickchange.
I ordered a float from Sammy at AZ Model A and he is including a length of thin stainless steel wire to 'tie' float to rod.
Sammy is full of good info and treats his customers right.

I had a brass float and did not like the rattle noise when the tank was full and the metal float was bumping against the top of the tank. Neoprene is the best way to go.

I agree, and I notch the end so the wire can tuck into the notch, so the float will push on far enough for the small brass washer to be installed before pinching the end of the wire to hold it in place.

I use a second hand Champaign cork ( I kept some from when they were cork). I drill a hole through the centre of it and dunl it all in the can of tank sealer. If it keeps fuel in, it'll keep it out!
