Re: driveshaft yoke
Some engines have been installed with motor mounts reversed. It locates the engine 2" froward from the correct position.

I believe there is not more than 1" overall in the adjustments for the engine steady rest. It seems like 2" forward would push your fan-blade into the radiator. If you took out the factory spacer between water pump pulley and fan blade, you only subtract less than one inch. The Y-block in my '55 is all stock with original fan blade and spacer. You can barely stick an index finger between fan-blade and radiator. Anyway, if the alcove for the mounting bolts on your side motor mounts are facing forward, they are installed backward. The bolts should be installed from the backside. If so, could be that somebody has got a shorter driveshaft than the original, so the front yoke doesn't engage with trans output shaft as far as it should. |

Re: driveshaft yoke
Mr driveshaft will modify my shaft
he says the slip yoke only needs enough play to get rear U joint in. 1/2 - 1" |

The yoke slides in and out as the rear suspension contracts/expands. It's in the SHOP MANUAL.
