It doesn't get better than that. May it all be smoooth!! Looks likes you believe (as I do), If I bring it I won't need it. So, you got room for one of those cheap yellow tow straps? Just to find safer ground should there be an occurrence.

I keep one in my pickup truck, and the starter quit on me, in my driveway!

Thanks, I hope it all goes smoothly but the old be prepared boy scout in me runs pretty stribf.

What I have is a very long ratcheting tie down strap for a tow rope. I hope I do not need it!

Couple of things more. Get some good wrap around sun glasses. You need to keep your eyes from drying out. I made some wind wings from plexiglass and some strap. I attached them to the stantion studs. Get a good set of noise cancelling ear protectors. The noise gets to you after while. A small battery powered air compressor would help if the tire is not damaged badly.

Some good ideas here - thought of getting the jump starter pack that you can inflate a tire with, I all ready wear hearing aids, and if I place my arm in the right location out of the window opening, I look cool and most of the wind uscall ready cancelled out .....

Worked on swapping out my rear hubs today. Started on the passenger side and the 39 rear drums I have really have a lot of meat on them. So much so that I really had to battle to get the pass side on but I finally did. Forget tjecdrivervside - I could not get the driver side drum on no matter what I did and I tried so many ways/tricks. It would just not go on. So, I will try to find someone close to me who can cut/shave the drum enough to get it installed or, buy another set of adapters and got that route. Bummer ......

Rather than turning the drums, I would find someone that can arc the linings.

True, flatjack, but I would probably arc new linings vs the present linings whick still have plenty left on them. I'll give it a couple days before making a final decision on what to do ...

If you measure at 9 and 3 o'clock if less then drum, the lining are to long.
I think they should be no longer then 3/4 "from Top rivet. Look at old lining.
My guess they hit on top ,chamfer the ends to make shorter.

Still working on the drum situation. I actually got another pair of rear wide 5 drums that had a larger inside diameter than my present set and they would not go into n, so I am going to cut one if the drums for expediency sake. I do not want to make this my life's work. I have too many other projects to get to ....

Speaking of projects, I am going to go off-topic here to my 40 Pickup project that was in the works before the 32 5-window that I am presently working on. Anyway, I have a bed that is in pretty good shape for my purposes save for the lower 6" of the passenger side on this bed. I looked n vain for the section I needed. A new bedside is expensive and way too "nice" for the rest of the bed. So, I decided to make what I need.

Using the driver side, I made a pattern of the area over the rear axle. From the lower back lip of that area I need only 8" going back before finding good metal. Going forward I need right up to the back panel of the bed, 25.5". So, got started today with my pattern and so far, so good. It will be in two pieces and to be truthful, I have done the easy stuff up to now .... Thanks to Dave at House of Fab for giving me a hand and using some of his equipment. ..

I have a shoe arcing machine. Someone near you must also have one. I would sure arc the shoes before cutting the drums. Are you using 39-41 or 42-48? Maybe you could find smaller shoes. If I have some I could send you I would. I have a stack of linings also. Maybe you could get some put on. How about call C&G , Mac's and get different shoes?

Strange you can not adjust the shoes in far enough to fit.

arch for best contact.

imo for whatever that is not worth,

dig the post, looking forward for more.

As far as I know, there is no one near me that arches shoes. The cost of cutting one drum is rated by shop hours at $80/hr - I nearly fell over!

The shoes wont be arched right, but you should be able to get the drum on.

i would not cut the drum to fit the shoes but vice-versa. .80 over at best on the drums.

Actually Al was kind enough to set up the meeting when I was going to be over that way. Smithfield is a ferry ride away and a 40 minute ride from me so I am not over that way often. I actually have to return a mockup motor over that way so I was in my DD truck ....
