For me , its the look . Roadsters and phaetons are the sportiest model A's of all for me . Some prefer the convertable cabriolet and sedan because they are more conservative and have roll up windows . There is a saying that if the top goes down , the price goes up. The open cars are usually lighter and sometimes faster . The open cars are often hotter to ride in because trhe upper dash panel doesn't direct cool air to the floor when the windshield is open like the closed cars but that is a negative for me . Roadsters were among the lowest priced models when new but are often the most sought after now , for me anyway .

Roadsters, especially '30-'31 Dlx. models, will always be in demand.

The soldiers in the photo look to be French circa early 1930's. Maybe Belgians. This Phaeton must have been the Maginot Lines' backup! Probably didn't fare too well on May 10th, 1940 when the neighbors came knockin' on the door and Gen. Von Rundstedt loosed the Panzer tanks upon them.

Was there ever an accessory sliding rag-top kit for Tudor or Fordor like the WEBASTO kits used on Jags and other Brit cars in the 60s and 70s?

There actually is a modern kit used by hotrod guys for under $1000.

I LOVE my 29 std Roadster. Great view when driving, can wave at everyone when you go but, and the old ladies LOVE the rumble seat! I'm with Purdy.

I like the open cars because for me they're so much less complicated to build.

Very TRUE, they're just a body, with a Canvas Lid!

2008 followed two ladies in a Model A pickup with no top. They had a sign something like "Two Gal's Topless to Texas." It was tough on them but they made it from Oregon to Texas. I can't make it from Tahoe to the Bay Area with the top down. Usually about Placerville I have to put it back up. Just too hot for me. I do love driving it a bit with the top down.

I find get into and out the roadster is easier, now that I'm not as flexible as I used to be, especially with the top down.

I think roadsters are the most beautiful A's......but i prefer my tudor.
I use the tudor as a daily driver all year round, now in Holland it is summer and the sun is burning so hot you will be coocked in an open car, when summer is gone it usually rains, wind gusts an cold weather most of the time so there is little use for a roadster.
But when i could afford it i certainly wanted one…….just to look at it.

I love my Fordor. Can pack the family, plus in laws, plus picnic lunch in the trunk. Lots of fun!
