Default seat belt fastern dimensions

Hi All,

Getting to the point of installing seat belts in my 30 Townsedan. I have 7/16x3 bolts so far which I gleaned from Les Andrews book. But what bolts go in the back-size wise? I may even have to get longer bolts for the front depending on where and how I mount the front belts.

Bolts should be good ones, grade 5 or 8. There should be a large flat washer and a lock washer on the other end of the bolts, they usually come with the seat belts.

When I installed belts in my '32 back in'61 I used 6" square 3/8 thick steel plates under the floor, NOT a flat washer, FWIW

Plates like 1931 flamingo used are especially needed if the bolt will be going thru wood. On one of my cars I installed a 2"x2" angle iron inside the frame and bolted the belts to that. All body styles are not the same.

This is the reinforcement from Lowes that I used in my '31 Coupe. The bar that fit nicely in the area , Gr 8 washers, nuts, and bolts.

Proof load tensile strength on a 3/8 grade 5 bolt is 6600 lbs, grade 8 is 9300 lbs.
