1930 Town Sedan

I just reinstalled my engine after new flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, t/o bearing, water pump, rebuilt distributor, rebuilt carb, and timing gear. The engine started rough as expected but then started this screaming noise within a minute or two. I disconnected the water pump and generator to rule those out but still just squeals.

Starter bolts hitting the flywheel? Maybe?

Ensure that the front pulley isn't rubbing against the front engine mount yoke.

Also, oil the distributor.

Just checked the starter bolts. They seem like the right length. Great idea though!!!

Also checked the front engine mount and that seems clear. Also a great idea! I will lubricate the distributor

John CT you are a genius...I backed out the upper inside bolt on the starter and the squeal disappeared. Thank you..Thank you...Thank you!!!

Great! Easy fixes are always welcome around here!
If that starter mounting bolt had been a tad longer, the engine might have been difficult to turn over, as it would have been pushing harder against the flywheel. Such a situation has fooled a great many Model A guys over the years into thinking the engine was stuck. I believe your squeal would have gone away in short order because the turning flywheel would have worn down the end of the softer metal bolt shank. As you press in the clutch, the crankshaft moves forward a little bit and that would have also contributed to ending the sound by spinning with more force against the bolt end. 'Sure would have been unnerving until the bolt wore down, though!
