Default Main shaft bearing retainer question.

When the main shaft bearing retainer is snugged down shouldn't it snug down on the main shaft bearing or is there supposed to be some play? I think there must be close to 1/32" play as retainer does not take bearing collar or o.d.up against the rear snap ring? I am just showing the picture to show what end I am talking about.

Default Re: Main shaft bearing retainer question.

Or mayby someone can tell me what is supposed to be the snap ring thickness? I thought the original ones looked okay and measured .062 thick so I thought that was okay but to me the groove looks wider than that.

the should not move. when talking to Steve Mitchell, a lot of the retainers do not hold the bearing correctly so they machine them to the correct clearance. on the transmissions they sell.
