Identifying Shocks
How do you identify a "new" shock that is sealed and doesn't require oil vs an original rebuild that should be topped off?

Re: Identifying Shocks
The shock shown in your photo was likely manufactured by Peter Buciak "Vendor", Antique Auto and Parts by PETE Superior St. Chicago.
Here is a link to a previous thread about these shocks: http://fordbarn.com/forum/showthread...923#post339923 Look at the stamping, if they say Made in Chicago, then they are Pete's shocks. Darryl in Fairbanks |

Re: Identifying Shocks
Can you pull a shock lever and post a photo of the cover, by the looks of your photo, the Patent # does not seem to match Pete's shocks.

Re: Identifying Shocks
If I remember correctly aren't the shock bodies of Pete's shocks made of Brass?
Or maybe its another repro shock that is brass. Last edited by Benson; 08-11-2015 at 02:46 PM. |

Here are a few more (not all the same shock). Looks like Pat# 108701. I only see made in the USA - not Chicago. Matt |

Probably good news, according to the Restoration Guidelines and Judging Standards, you have the Second Style Ford Shock, February 1928 thru July 1928. Patent # 1087017 is the original Houdaille Patent. Darryl |

Thanks so much - I never thought to look in the judging standards. The motor is a Jan 28. Since those are not sealed, I can go ahead and top them all off and adjust them. Matt |
