Default Bendix bolt picture question

Pictured are two bendix bolts I fished out with a magnet tonight. I expected the smaller one, but the larger bolt that came along with it was a surprise. If my shaft uses the smaller bolt, does that make it an early starter? Thanks experts.

Yes, the smaller diameter first, then the larger. I'm not sure of the date for the change.

the Model A bendix used 5/16" bolts and ford V8`s used 3/8" bolts. I like using the V8 bendix for that reason. and always make sure you have a good bolt retainer.
