My latest purchase
I bought this whilst visiting Nevada during the V8 national meet in June/July.
Now the process of getting it home to New Zealand begins. Looks like pretty good all round condition, but unfortunately it has had the V12 running gear replaced with what I believe to be, '52 Cadillac V8 engine, transmission and rear axle. Still I will be happy the get this rare vehicle home where I can put my own mark on it and enjoy using this very rare car here in New Zealand. http://fordbarn.com/forum/album.php?...ictureid=22932 http://fordbarn.com/forum/album.php?...ictureid=22931 All comments (good or bad) Welcomed

Re: My latest purchase
I was offered it on the Thursday whilst on the self guided tour. but didn't decide to buy it until the following week. I really didn't need to buy another car but it was too good a deal to say no to. I had never really considered buying a Lincoln Continental as they were out of my league, price wise, until now that is

Re: My latest purchase
What year is it? I have always liked that style, I believe they were 1942 thru 1948. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: My latest purchase
That body style is '42 to '48, the '42's were a bit different in the grille and had no "fog lamps" however, a lot of '42's were retro fit with the fog lamps. The Lincoln was no different from other Ford, etc. products as from '45 to '48 most of the cars built were slightly modified '42 models.

Re: My latest purchase
I have always loved those old Continentals, especially the 40-41s.

Re: My latest purchase
The Cad drive train swap was relatively common in the 50s. Claimed to be for the sake of improving reliability while being more cost effective than repairing the V12 (not unlike the rationalization that Jag sedan owners used a decade or two ago when doing an SBC swap) While that takes it out of the "original" category, it does make it "period correct" for a '50s style car. Looks like a good score.

Re: My latest purchase
Back in the 70's I worked at a Ford dealership Body shop. The shop owner had a 40-41 Lincoln Continental convertible stored there. It was about 80 percent of the way thru a total restoration. Beautiful car. I used to sit and look at it everday during my lunch hour.
Right before I left the lead body man told me that the shop owner was willing to give him the 40-41 convertible in exchange for the his labor in restoring the shop owners 48 Lincoln Sedan. I hope the he took the deal. I sure would have... Torchie. |

Re: My latest purchase
The 12s had a self destruct problem over venting, sludge would form and screw the engine up. The Classic Car Club of Americal allowed engine swaps in the Cont. because of this.

Re: My latest purchase
Thanks for all the positive comments.
Trevo - This is now the 4th vehicle I have imported so I am now getting pretty familiar with the whole process. I'm just waiting for a few little jobs to be done before I can get it shipped Home.
