My floorboards only had a hole where the pedal extension came through, when I installed new floorboards, I cut a piece of rubber floormat in a 2" circle, used small tacks and centered a hole for the rod. Covered nicely by the floormat, and is never seen.

Inside the car, not on the firewall side

Thank You, glad of that just got the upper board in my '31 roadster and was hoping I did not have to take back out to tack the seal in place.

Yes I tacked the welting on the board edges. Everything went good on this part of the project except forgetting the seal install on the accelerator hole. 74 years old glad I know where my garage is.

Original there would only have been the seal on the starter pedal mounted on the engine side. The accelerator pedal arm moves in an small arc so might need a slit or some type of bellow type.

Authenticity aside do most install or leave off the two steel bottom support pieces that are set in place with tubular rivets?

I have them on as it seemes to add a little more support
I also have the transmission oil dip stick cut out and the cut floorboard to make battery access easier. Nice to not have to crawl under the car to check trans oil or pull the whole floor board to access the battery.

Well I did buy them but I think I will use woodscrews instead of the rivets.

Caution. Don’t put anything down there that has a remote chance of sticking that gas pedal in the down position. Might ruin your whole day. I recommend adding a redundant throttle return spring at the carb. like modern cars. If that old spring fails, the throttle falls wide open.

That's when you turn the ignition OFF.
