Wide bed A pickup
Hey all, I did a search but came up empty handed, I知 goin after a wide bed and steel cab tomorrow (3 hours 1 way) and I知 looking for pictures of how the wide bed mounts to the frame. I have a running chassis I知 putting the cab and bed on, I have experience with narrow beds but I致e never seen the underside of a wide bed so any pics you might have will be a great help! The bed has a steel floor also but no wood that I can see, does the wood get sandwiched in the floor somehow? Thanks for the help!!

Re: Wide bed A pickup
The wood in a wide bed is under the steel top skin. The wood does the supporting, the steel is just the top skin. The mounting points will be self explanatory once you look at it.

Re: Wide bed A pickup
All widebeds are not the same, but all attach to the frame in the same way.

Re: Wide bed A pickup
Does that mean some of the through bolts in the floor line up with the frame holes?

Re: Wide bed A pickup
I can't quite remember if the bolts actually go through the steel floor skin or not.I should know,I put a new steel floor in one years ago.I think the owner told me the steel skin and the wood subfloor cost nearly the same. The wood subrails in the wide bed run the whole length of the bed, they don't end at the rear frame crossmember like the narrow bed ones do.I seem to remember the price of the long ones was nearly triple the price of the short ones. The wood subrails do all the supporting in the widebed,in the narrow bed the steel lower siderails do the supporting.

Re: Wide bed A pickup
That’s what is missing! Okay that makes more sense I will do some research and see if I ca find them online. I knew the narrow beds have a wood sill but this is the first wide bed I’ve fooled with. Thanks for the help!

Okay I found the sills, looks like the carriage bolts drop through and some attach through the frame I知 guessing. I知 surprised no one has popped a pic in here, maybe these beds really are rare! Lol

There is a copy of the Ford blueprint on the Snyder's on line catalog.

Re: Wide bed A pickup
I took the metal floor out of my late '31 wide bed and replaced with a wood floor. You can see a number of photos at my website.

Look in the new Mac's catalog. There's pictures of the bed broke down. They have awood underfloor with the metal floor over it.

Re: Wide bed A pickup
Very nice! Do you have any mesurements for the big wood sub rails? Where do the bolts drop in? Doesn稚 look like the bed is attached to the frame by much since it overhangs the frame so much

Re: Wide bed A pickup
The bolts go thru both the metal and wood, then into existing holes in the frame. Obvious once you see them.

Re: Wide bed A pickup
If you are going to replace the box subfloor you might want to use Wolmanised SIC
