a '32 Five Window pics

I picked this up a few weeks ago, thought I would share pics and info. Car was a stocker in OR a few decades ago, then was in SoCal in the Ross Racing Pistons collection.

Has a '36 motor and trans, came with a mint early Thickstun intake with two restored large logo 97's, but I have not yet installed it. Metal is very good, also came with the original fenders, running boards, headlights, frame covers that were simply taken off the stocker and stored away. Has '40 rear end, juice brakes, dual Smittys, and great for just driving around town. I have done highway driving, but not freeway driving, too many nuts on the road.

One question regarding speedo, it is the original, but the previous owner said something about since it is a '40 rear end, the numbers on the odo were going backwards when he connected the cable...? Any info on getting it working right would be appreciated. Thanks Barners

That is a beautiful 5-Window. This car proves you don't have to butcher an early Ford to build the perfect hot rod.

How can I get a little more speed out of it? Will the Thickstun help with HP? I do have perfectly running stock 59ab to put into it, how much will that help? I am not into the frame twisting type motors, just something to get me at 65-70 mph on the freeway....

Super nice looking rod. I have never heard of a speedometer running backwards like that. Have you checked it out yourself?

Nice 5- window - one of my favourites, but sadly out of my reach.

Not sure about the speedo, can't give a definitive answer, but if the turtle on the torque tobe has been fitted backwards, that would make the cable run backwards.

If it were me I would disconnect the speedo cable at the speedo, and watch which way it rotates as I drive along. You have to imagine which way it would be rotating as it enters the back of the speedo. If it is rotating clockwise (the right direction for the speedo to gain mph) as you look on the end of it, it is correct, if it rotates anti-clockwise then the turtle fitting (speedo takeoff) has been fitted backwards on the torque tube.

As it went wrong when he fitted the 40 axle my guess is that this is the problem.

I had same problem, just turned the speedo drive turtle round, as Mart said.
Great looking car, really perfect in fact, everyone likes roadsters, three windows, etc but I think the 5 window is a really well designed and proportioned car.

I had the same experience when I put Merlot back on the road. I noticed that the miles were coming off the odometer. Reversed the turtle and am puttin' the miles on the right way. I drove 2000+ miles each of the past 2 years. Byron.

Check rear end ratio. I have a 9/37(3:78) and large diameter Goodrich 18" rubber on my 32 with a stock 34 85 and can run 55-60 mph on the interstate with no problems. Looks like you may have 16" rubber on yours, that will slow you down a little and make it steer harder. My car had 16" rubber on it when I bought it and I changed it back to the correct 18"s.

Oops if you divide 9 into 37 you get 4.11 which is the typical stock 1932 Ford ratio no matter if early Model A style or later V-8 style. Most are the early style so buy yourself a set of 3.54 gears from Mac,s or Drake or Dick Spadaro Parts.
