Default All Black 1928 Tudor?

I have a 1928 Tudor. Originally it was Arabian Sand. The original color is still on the inside hood, firewall and under the sill plates. In looking at the list of colors for the 1928 Tudor Black is not an option. I see it for the 1930 & 1931. The person I purchased the Tudor from was attempting a restoration. I think instead for trying to match the Arabian Sand body color he just painted the entire car Black.

Am I correct in my reading that an All Black Tudor for 1928 was not an option?

I can't answer your question about is black a legitimate colour for your car but I have a 1928 Tudor painted in Niagara Blue Dark. In anything but sunlight, it looks black. If this colour is legit, maybe it is an option for you.

My early 29 tudor was arabian sand, but was black when I bought it in 1975. When I restored it, I considered arabian sand, but it had been black for so many years that I painted it black. Black is not correct for 28 or 29, but it is what it is.

I thought you could get black, but it wasn't listed because Ford was pushing the colors of the new car.

Friend has some color Kodachrome movies shot in Boston during the 1938 period. His father was making films of Boston Elevated Railway streetcars. All sorts of traffic is seen whizzing through the scenes. What always struck me was the mostly dark painted automobiles. Many later model cars of the 1930s had white side wall tires which seem to emphasis the dark finishes. There are of course many Model A Fords rolling through the scenes with most of them looking to be totally black.

interesting article - they said alot of cars during the 30-40's were dark due to the depression and many automobile manufactuers that produced luxury cars closed shop so your creams and tans dissapeared. They also mentioned leading up to ww2 companies sold "blackout" cars that didnt have alot of fancy chrome or embeleshments.
