Suggestion On How To Get The Body Onto The Frame
Hi All,
We finally got around to pulling my father's 31 truck cab out from under the storage shelf where it has sat for the last 40 years. I still remember going out in the garage when I was 6 or 7 playing inside the cab like I was driving and pushing the windshield all the way out cause it looked so cool! I forgot I had put a dent in the driver door from kicking it shut all the time. I am looking for suggestions for when the time comes to put the cab back on the frame what might be a good safe way to do this. Thanks, Denny |

Invite two of your strongest friend's over it should be no problem lifting it on to the chassis. Several years ago my friend and I picked one up to move and it was no problem.

Unless you have a few very strong friends or a hoist to the roof, pull the steering column out.
PITA to get it over that if you are struggling with muscle. When I was struggling with my 28 CCPU cab on my own, I removed the gearstick and the steering wheel and the 2 bolts from steer box to frame and let column lie down somewhat and fed the cab in from the rear and lifted the column up and over the seat riser as it went on. Go to the link below and see how I did it myself. If you have a couple friends help you, it is easier, but my wife wont help me any more so I have to figure out how to do things mostly by myself.

Stack of concrete blocks two 4x4s a good floor jack, and some back & forth adding of blocks untill you can roll the chassis under it. Did a '35 Plymouth Coupe by myself that way, no big deal. Bob

It cost me a case of 24 but we put a strong guy on each corner and gently sat it in place. Nothing to undo or reconnect. Well worth the $15 dollars ! Wayne

I see that your roof is open so looks like you have access to your seat. I did it alone, since no friends I know, around here, are into Model A's and I didn't trust local friends to know what to do. It all worked out perfect as planned. |

I would leave your body off the frame and do the body work first. You could make a body dolly 2x10 4x4 plywood and 4casters.When finished 2x6 thru door windows and 2 come alongs, then set it on frame.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I had been thinking of using an engine hoist but wanted to see what others had done. Dad is going to dust off the cab and then get some body work done to it hopefully soon. I think I am more excited about it than he is! Until then I will have to settle for cruising around in my 31 S/W

Re: Suggestion On How To Get The Body Onto The Frame
Hey Denny,
When you get Mark ready to go, he can let me know and the three of us can geterdone ! I've done this operation by myself in my younger days, and I'm sure that Mark has also. If we drive our old iron up to your place, neighbors won't mind that parked there will they The steering column is the PIA , as stated correctly earlier. BTW.... I were you, I'd have the top of frame material already to do before body put on, with frame holes pocked out and material glued to top of frame rails. 100 inches of material to each side is pretty good.
