Default Bob Drake '39 bumper guard fit?

Anybody tried to use the re-production '39 bumper guards by Bob Drake? I just tried to install four of them and none fit the contour of the bumper at all. These are his re-production bumpers so I figured they would fit pretty well. I've had good luck with the many parts I've purchased from Bob, but these are really a POS. I've had them for over a year, so I'm sure I have no recourse. Just was wondering if anybody else tried them.

He must have never corrected them same problem 10-15 years ago. I do not know about the bumpers he sells but the guard contours were not correct on 1939 Deluxe. I remember at the 2003 Grand National in Dearborn three or four 39 Fords I looked at had developed rust at the edge that contours to bumper, this was where everyone had tried to grind them to fit and naturally ground away chrome, some had painted edge but no one wanted to spend even more money to replate an ill fitting new part. Most had to long before installing to return. I searched for originals to replate.

The sad thing is, I have some pretty decent originals I could have re-chromed. Live and learn.

Yes, the '39 and the '40 bumper guards fit like poop. Sad, but he keeps advertising them as beautiful reproductions. Of course you are probably "the very first guy he has heard this from"

DAK; Go the re-chrome route, i have done several, do you own prep work, and get em smooth, braze the pits, thayll come back looking great, and will fit. I make a plate and fill the open back of the guard, above and below the bumper, NOW I hope thay fit the new Drakes stanless bumper. call Drake and ask for Heather, # 114 I think? You will have no trouble with your return, ask her about the pin in her leg, she loves to talk about it..... OLD....BILL
