I was one that never had the money to buy new (in my formative years), especially considering the questionable quality of a reman. Thankfully, I had the ability to go to a yard or find bargains on used/new parts sales.

Yeah, I remember a few years back I did some stuff too. I once put 427 Chev pistons in my 2.3 Pinto engine. But the compression was too high, so I had to put them in upside down. That thing was really fast too. I sure miss those days, great fun.

Your easiest and cheapest way out is to find a take-out as the man described. Strip the FI and hopefully sell it for a little payback. You will have to transfer some pieces of your present engine over other than the fuel intake.

Make sure he offers a good warranty. Hopefully he has a run-in stand.

What was the machinist's final say on the block?

Yeah, we did that engine in high school shop class. We moved the crankshaft up to the top of the engine so the pistons would work upside down. The hardest thing we had to do tho was figure out a new grind for the camshaft, as it was now turning upside down also. My shop teacher got the idea from the Ranger engine. If an upside down engine could be converted to run right side up, why couldn't the opposite be possible?
