Default Speedometer cables

I know the gear ends are different, but are the speedometer cable ends the same for Oval and Round speedometers?

The ends are different, at least for the Stewart Warner units which are the most commonly used in th A's. The 28's thru first half 30's (June or so) used oval; the second half 30's thru 31 are round. Identify the brand of your unit and
check with the vendors.

The drive end of the oval speedometer cable is round tip with a flag pressed onto it. The end that goes into the head has a .124 square tip. The round cable is .104 square on each end. The housing for the oval units is about 1/2" diameter, the round style is much smaller. The threaded ends of the housings are the same for both types.

The one odd duck of the speedometer cables for the A's is oval Northeast. It has no trip odometer, also male threads on speedometer, others are female.

Thank you very much. I have been trying to figure out the best way for me to hook up the Borg Warner overdrive to my early 30 speedometer. The overdrive is from a 54 Ford truck. Finally decided to use the stock Model A cable and got a stock cable for a 54 truck. Having a speedometer cable mfg. make me an adapter to connect the 2 cables together.
