Default Well I never knew I wanted one.........

I have a 1930 Model A coupe and love the car and never considered a Model T. Well that is until I saw this car.

1917 ford model T - $5250

Now I'm actually considering a Model T. I love the way this car looks. You all feel free to educate me on all the pros and cons of these things. Also what to look for and what to run from.

He doesn't say, but it looks like it runs. I like the looks of that car.I think the main drawback is the low top speed of these cars-rather dangerous these days.

Model T's are so much fun it can not explained ! I have been tooling around in my coupe for over twelve years and the only regret is that I did not get one SOONER !
I do think that price is a little high for that car though . for like two grand more you can have a really sweet one .
if rust is your thing , that is kool with me , but just head over to ebay and look at the prices of the completed listings .
anyway , best of luck and look into the mtfca , "model t club of America" and you will find there are chapters all over the place . these guy's are usually very helpful and very friendly .
see ya on the ol' dusty trail .

My dad and pals were ardent "Model A Forever" guys. Naturally I was schooled on the advantages of the A versus the T. During the late eighties my future third wife showed me an add for a T nearby and reasonable, though neglected. I just smiled, thought of Pop and tried to define the differences. (she knew of my basket case '30 coupe) So I grabbed a stack of Photos taken at an AACA meet, to show her what a T looked like. In doing so I found that I had only shot A's in group photo. Each model T however was shown from various angles and degrees. Well Waddya know I must like T's. The following summer we bought my avatar. The next season (after going through the systems, oiling, water jacket, head-block surface, bands, gas, exhaust, axle bearings, brakes, and sad to admit the Delco distributor.) I had her at the wheel enjoying the ride of her life. We've had more fun than can be described! Always we are movie stars when we show up in our T

I have had both A & T for 40 years. They are totally different. You get in the A and drive. With the T you discuss it for awile and it finally decides it will go. Each one, a great experience.

When I'm asked about a Model A, I say I don't know much about those modern cars. Almost had one once, but didn't have the cash at the time. So later I ended up in T land, and I love it. Life in the slow lane isn't for everyone, but I think it's swell. But be warned, they tend to multiply. Mine are a 1915 roadster, a 1923 touring, and a 1923 Fordor, plus a couple of projects (1924 TT & 1926 RP).

I agree that the pictured roadster is overpriced. Here are some Model T pages with info on prices, types of T's, and other pertinent reading.

Agree with the above guys who say this car, from the photos, looks over priced. A car in that condition that is running OK, perhaps $4000. Tops.

Not running, $3000. Tops. It appears to need everything. Bad upholstery, bad top, bad paint, bad tires, bad looking engine maintenance. For $5500, much better shape Roadsters out there, just look around a bit more.

The for sale prices that I see are way over what is being talked about, they just aren't being listed that low. Running gear that won't even start are a couple thousand. You won't find any like the one in question for 3000.

I think it all depends which part of the country you're in. The price seems high but not so high that you couldn't work down to a better price. There appears to be a lot of good parts to start with. You can pay more for a nicer car but you never know what corners have been cut until its yours later. Get it as cheap as possible and plan on taking it apart and having fun learning as you go. Nothing is done in rush when it comes to Model T's.

Look at it this way
A Model A is an antique automobile.
A Model T is a horseless carriage.
The only similarity is that they both have 4 cylinders and 4 wheels.
They drive completely different and have different personalities.

A Model A is like a dog and a T is more like a cat with a mind of its own.

A great thread. I love the pic with the T & A together (yes, I know). That really shows the difference between the two. I am looking at a T that has an interesting story. I will share when it is a done deal.
