'29 two-window Fordor vs '29 steel-back Fordor(?)
The differences between a '29 two-window(Briggs) Fordor and a '29 steel-back(Briggs) Fordor look to be subtle. Does the steel-back(blind-back?) have more of a 'square' appearance when viewed from the side? Also unclear on the models 60A-C. Which one was which? Thanks.

Those photos seem to be the same type ie. 60C
1928 Briggs made the 60A fordor, with 'pebble grain brown' top. The metal underneath has a definate 'sharp' corner. For 1929, 2 more fordors introduced, one with black fabric covered top [60B] & one with painted steel, the 60C, which has rounded corner edge. This is the one that looks like your photos & probably the best looking one of them all. |

I believe the two you are talking about are the 60-c (steelback) and the 170-a (standard fordor 2-window). The one in the picture looks like a 60-c. If the front door post is all steel, it is a 170-a. If it has wood parts, it's a 60-c. Also, the black vinyl top rolls down to the gutter on the 60-c. The 170-a's top is like most other fordors.

Re: '29 two-window Fordor vs '29 steel-back Fordor(?)
The 170-A two window replaced the 60-C steel back in mid '29. The 60-C was essentially patterned after the 60-A & B leather back as the number suggests. All of them used a unique four hole mount rear spare wheel support.
The 170-A was patterned off the 155-B Town Sedan and 165-B three window Fordor, introduced in early '29. It was longer in the rear section, had roof upper panels welded (and leaded) which extended to the front visor, and used the common 3-hole rear spare wheel carrier.

Look at the visor in the last photo Luke posted, is that unique to the 60C? This is the first photo I've ever seen of one.

Brent, Until I saw that photo I thought there were three Model A Ford visors, 28-29 Closed cab truck, 28-29 car, and the 30-31. The visor on the '29 Fordor doesn't look like an even swap with a 30-31. Is it? |

Re: '29 two-window Fordor vs '29 steel-back Fordor(?)
Would that visor be the same as visors on 165A Murray [ & Briggs version] 3W fordor?
This has been an interesting thread on these fordors, Ive learnt a lot. Did not really know about 170 fordor type. Ford Canada only exported the 60A & B fabric types, so thats all Ive seen of the blindback models. |

I agree Tom, I never knew a thing about the bodystyle until I got that rear section last October. Just found a Ford Barm member with another complete body a half hour from me.
