Keep in mind that this type of wiring diagram shows the function and not the location or physical configuration of electrical components or wiring.

If it were me I would just run a jumper from a working light to the dash lights until you have time to troubleshoot.

The rheostat has a coil of wire and a wiper. Reproes are available from Carpenter.

Yes, absolutely that’s a option, I think for now I’ll move back to the dome light...seems easier job...

I did finally get the cover off, and ohmed out both bulbs, the pillar light switch is original and had enough corrosion on the points to prevent it from making contact. Took it apart and cleaned up contacts. They sure made that switch heavy duty back then. I was thinking of the person(s) who was putting them together back in 1939.

I by passed the rheostat and now the lights are nice and bright. Who drives at night anymore or in the rain?

Sorry. I have been off line. Our son and family just returned from 6 years in Europe. We are thrilled having then around. Also a health activity is on going.
