Default Do Bronco drums work on 46-8 hubs?

I think I read here that some early 12 inch Bronco drums work on 40/41 hubs, but will they also work on 46-8 hubs?

My drums are marked 12.090 and I really wasn’t concerned when I got them as I needed the drums to make the axle I have a roller. But figure may as well do what I can now instead of taking things apart later.

I’m not concerned about looks, just function.

Thanks

I would be interested in the answer. '46-'48 are designed to seat on the drum behind the hub flange. The stud heads rest on the inside of the pressed steel center section of the drum and them swedged to the inside (facing car) hub flange.

'40 style hubs have the drum on the outside part of the hub flange.

I wonder if the '46-'48 would be OK with a different drum placed outside of the hub flange like a '40 does.

Yes. That’s what I’m wondering as well. Both styles are different, and has been explained to me can be interchanged. But I’m wondering if there might be an offset or interference issue. ?

Oh, I don’t think that could be placed outside, due to the steel ring on the later hubs. I was thinking/ wondering if they (Bronco) would work behind the hubs

Got it. Sorry, no help with answering your question.

Which Bronco's had 12" brakes?

I've only seen 10" & 11" and haven't come across a listing for a 12" application.

Or do you mean, using 80s bronco rear drums as a cheap replacement for 48 to 52 F1 front drums?

Yep, me too. I've had a couple Bronco's (still have one), and I've not seen 12". My (vague) recollection is that some F-250's had 12", and of course, bolt pattern is different. And, obviously, a F-250 (or bigger) drum could be re-drilled for 5 on 5.5.

I did some more searching, seems I was wrong about using Bronco drums, as noted they weren’t 12 inch, so back to the drawing board

Thanks

I was in a rush when I replied earlier, so what I came across while searching ((and what I misunderstood) was using some year of F100 backing plates on 40-48 spindles, then using Bronco drums. I guess the advantage is the use of Bendix brakes v Lockheed brakes.

Any way, just wanted to clarify my mistake.

Some use F100 11" brake set ups on early Lockheed equipped Fords but the Lincoln 12" Bendix set up is the easiest one to use now that the aftermarket parts are available.
