Default Mobil oil bottle top

How did they fill the oil bottles with this top ???

Is something missing in the slot area ???

Putting it on display but they asked the above questions.
I have the bottle but never gave it a thought till now.
It occurred to me that if the answers are not passed down
in a few years that info will be lost; like unlabeled photos.

At the time oil was stored in the back room in 20(?)gal drums. The attendants ( grease monkeys ) refilled the reusable bottles. using a hand crank pump, when needed to replenish the island.

My dad and his brothers were greasers, brought me into the pit, and then said I should do better.

I have seen pictures of the same bottle top in some of my gas station collectable books and they all look like yours. Nothing missing. The only thing missing on yours appears to be the little metal cap for the top of the spout.

The spouts in the photos are secured with a snapring that has a
cross section like a piston ring. The bottle top is tapered
and the spout goes on without much effort, but when the ring
snaps into its mating slot you can't remove the spout without
risk of damage to the bottle. Luckily any chipping is hidden when
the two are rejoined. I believe that there must be a gasket in
there also, otherwise oil would run down the outside when filling
and after pouring, when the bottle is returned to the rack.
