Hubley racing
I have recently looked into the world of Hubley racing. For those who do not know what this is it is building 1/20 scale model Model A cars and racing them at Model A events.
I have built a 2 lane test track and have been testing a Hubley that I built. I have experimented with many things to make the car go faster. Is there anyone on this board that has interest in this? If so let me know and we could exchange ideas. Bob |

Re: Hubley racing
I had a friend who owned a Hobby Shop in Florida some years ago who had made a Hubley Phaeton into a slot car with 2 motors because of the weight! It was all wheel drive, and was used in "Soccer" matches on a slot track, with cars on two teams on alternating lanes going in opposite directions pushing a tennis ball towards the goal line on either end of a long straightaway.
The car was called "Dead Short" for what would happen if it was even knocked off it's wheels and would slide across the electrical contact strips on the track!

Re: Hubley racing
I'd appreciate some tips on making mine go faster. I can't find a web site that offers this information. I've done the basic stuff, but can't find any really good secrets of speed.

Re: Hubley racing
Guys, if anyone has some old Hubley's you might be interested in selling for a reasonable price, let me know.
I collect 1/18th die casts, and have about 190 of them, including some Model A's and T's, as well as other Fords and Lincolns. Of course, there are models from all over the world in my collection...

Go to the MAFCA web site and look under the youth category for some information.

Re: Hubley racing
Rolling straight is very important so the tires don't rub on the track side rails. Also old, hard tires roll way better than new soft ones. You can hear them on the track.

Re: Hubley racing
Rolling straight like Glenn said, polish the axles for friction reduction and true up the tires on a lathe. You want them as round as possible and put a little crown on the tread to lessen rolling resistance. I don't know what the rules might be, but if there is a minimum weight I would reduce weight up high and add it low if permitted.

I have a Hubbley Roadster Pickup, well I say I have one my son (age 40) took it with him when he left home at age 21. LOL We were actually talking about it yesterday ans he still has it. I can't remember when or where I bought it but it was a very long time ago.

Re: Hubley racing
I have a 30/31 Phaeton, that is missing a couple of wheels and tires. I've been looking for a set, but with no luck.
Does anyone know where I could get a set of wheels and tires? |

Re: Hubley racing
I bought some in the 70s but the tires have all cracked. Is anyone making replacement tires?
