Front Fender Bead Patch
My 1930 Front Fender has multiple bead fractures and botched “repairs”. I noticed that Snyders has a “Fender Bead Repair Panel” as a replacement for the entire side of the Fender. I haven't seen it at any of the other vendors. I'm thinking that instead of using it to replace the entire side (bead), it could be cut up and used for patches instead – which would save me the time and frustration of making my own bead patches. I thought I would check and see if anyone has purchased this item, and what they think of it as far as correct size, etc. and any thoughts of using it as a donor for bead patch panels.

Re: Front Fender Bead Patch
I used one on my coupe. The profile and fit were good, perhaps not fine point levels but fine for a nice driver. I used a flanging pliers from Eastwood to make a step flange on the original fender and then MIG welded it a little bit at a time. Took some grinding and bondo but turned out very well. It may be easier to use a single long piece rather than several short ones to keep the bead profile true. If I remember correctly, these parts are made in Sweden for Snyders.

Re: Front Fender Bead Patch
Thanks "30 Tudor and Coupe". That's the information I was looking for. I order the bead repair from Snyder's. I also ordered an Everlast 160STH TIG welder which should be here today. My plan is to TIG butt weld in the beam patches - after much anticipated practice TIG welding sheetmetal. (I posted this earlier using the blue "POST REPLY" at upper left. I'll try "Go Advanced" this time. My apologies if it posts twice).

Re: Front Fender Bead Patch
I have hints for doing fender repairs at my website below.
the single most important thing to understand is all the repair work MUST be done on the frame will running boards, fender brackets and headlamp bar. For patches just buy a couple of junk fenders and take what you need. If you were in NJ I have some I would sell cheap. |

Re: Front Fender Bead Patch
Early on, I had one of the full length beads that snyders sells. It may have changed but that bead was enough too narrow that you could tell it was not the same as original. That may have been corrected. It is still hanging on the shop wall.
Also, the full bead replacement is a pretty tough repair for if inexperienced. |
