5window 36 parcel shelf
Can someone tell me what goes between the.parcel shelf and the seat back in a 36 5w coupe.?
Mine has flap attached to the back of the seat but it doesn't attach to any thing and any stuff left on the shelf ends up on the floor. I doubt Henry would have left it like that. Robert |

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
The back cushion of the seat is attached to the piece with the holes via a pair of hinges, this allows the seat cushion to be raised up, independent of the lower seat cushion for access into the front part of the trunk.
A "flap" of seat upholstery bridges over to the piece with the holes, to close the gap. My '36 5 window still has all of the original upholstery, in very good shape, if you want pix let me know, I'll send you some.

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
My back cushion is hinged on the backrest of the seat frame; thought they all were.

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
I would be extremely grateful for a few pictures of the parcel shelf general area thanks Bill, they will help with things like upholstery and the blind as well as the shelf itself.
Thanks again for your help Robert |

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
Here you can see the flap attached to the front edge of the package shelf lip on the right and the seat back on the left.
Does anybody have any pictures or further description of the #6 windbreak assemblies shown in Randy's picture. |

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
Do the ends of the board with the holes get screwed to the wood uprights that go from the floor to under the quarter windows?

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
The ends of the board with the holes screws to the edge of the package shelf. The wood uprights support the ends of the package shelf board.

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
Thanks TJ. Dons pictures show the ends of the board with holes covered with upholstery so I can't see if there are screws holding it to the upright pieces attached to the body. If there are screws there, it would make it impossible to remove the shelf without wrecking the upholstery. Are there screws?
Thanks |

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
Robert, Perhaps these photos will help. I long ago forgot where the photos came from. So my apologies to the owners. The one photo shows the screw holes at the end of the board and you can just make out the screws in the other photo. Also note the wood strips that everything attaches to.
Hope this helps. ps One of the photos is from a 3-window |

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
^^^Don, I found this picture a while back of a 3W package shelf; my 3W coupe has the tabs on the B pillar to support the package shelf with what appears to be angle piece. It also has no indication there was a vertical piece of wood as in your 5W pictures. I know this is a 5W thread; but 3W's had been brought up previously; and it has been a good source of package shelf information no matter which kind of coupe you own.

Don & rich b:
I didn't have the vertical wood piece in my 3W, either, but the upholstery had been changed sometime in the distant past, so who knows what may have been changed over the last 80+ years. -Bob |

Re: 5window 36 parcel shelf
I think the 35 and early 36 coupes had a fixed seat back, as does mine, but in Australia there are many things that are different from the US models.
We have difficulty knowing what is correct and I believe there are no old records held by Ford as the a lot of records were wiped out in a factory fire at the Geelong factory many years ago (so I was told). |
