Copper starter post
The copper post on my starter is stripped out. I can't tighten the hot starter wire. Does the post screw out? What is the easiest fix? Thanks.

Re: Copper starter post
I took mine to a repair shop, it has to be solder in and they will have to part.

Re: Copper starter post
Best done by an electric shop. The soldering iron has to be huge to accommodate the soldering necessary.

Re: Copper starter post
I don't know it they still have them but there used to be a repair post for stripped threads, it is not as good as a new post though.
there should still be some threads on the area of the lower nut,the one that holds the insulating washer, the repair post replaces that nut. |

Re: Copper starter post
There is an aftermarket collar the screws into the stript post. I have one on my 39. Dunno where it came from.

Re: Copper starter post
I just ran a thread die the next size smaller in metric and bought a metric nut to fit. No major loss in size/capacity.

Re: Copper starter post
Bob Drake has a starter terminal post kit listed in his catalog. p/n 18-11102-0 and p/n 18-11102-R depending on round or oval hole.
