18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
Will Chevrolet () 18" wheel beauty rings fit on 18" Ford wheels? I know I would have to notch the ring for the Ford wheels' side mounted tire valves. Chevy wheels have straight up tire tube valves. The reason I'm asking is I might put 18" Ford wires on my 1931 "A" roadster.

Re: 18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
Hi Bob, yes they fit, as you say, after notching for valve stem clearance. You can buy them at the filling station chev parts.

Re: 18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
Be advised that they are slightly wider and do not have the same ridge detail as the "ford" type rings SO you would want to buy a full set if you want matching rings!!!! As stated you have to deepen the stem opening!!! They look really good.

Be that as it may, they are an automatic deduction of points in V8 Club judging. (Yes, I know not everybody cares about such things.) |

Re: 18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
Thanks for the info everybody! Are 18" beauty rings made for Ford 18" wheels? I searched on the Web and the only ones I found, other than the new repop Chevy ones, were made of "plastic"........no thanks.

Re: 18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
Bob, I think that the filling station rings are the only game in town, and they are very nice! What is the sale price going to be?

Re: 18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
I would think that just having 18 inch wheels on a 31 Model A would be a dead giveaway resulting with the appropriate deductions?

Re: 18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
Plus the minute you say 18" and trim rings in the Ford circles AUTOMATICALLY 32 & triple the price is the game de jour. I bought 18 inch rings (unfortunately piece meal) and they do not match and still was two short. Bill Hirsch had them at one time, we had an order in with them as they told us that they had an order working for them and several months later got a refund stating that the company they used backed out on producing them. As stated the Cheeeevy ones are the ONLY one now available.

Re: 18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
About 20 years ago, I purchased a set of 18" stainless Ford beauty rings from Bruce Johnson (may he R.I.P.). Bruce had several sets made. I believe they cost me around $75 each! I had a 6-wheel roadster at the time. My wheels were painted perfectly apple green with whitewalls. Boy, they sure looked good! After installing I discovered that they were not correct for my '32. So I purchased another nice set of 18" Ford wheels from a guy in Texas who had a nice restored '32 Roadster and was going to streetrod it.
Anyway, I had the new wheels painted apple green, purchased a set of double whites from Coker and installed them on my roadster when I had it judged. I left the rings on the other set of wheels and used them when I wasn't having my car judged. Wish I still had the roadster! Pat |

Re: 18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
I have had these 18inch Filling Station wheel trim rings on my 1932 for sometime now and they are excellent the only thing I had too scallop them around the valve stem I made a special tool for that so I could swage them so they could not dig into the valve stem.

Re: 18" Wheel Beauty Rings....
There's a fellow here in Norcal that has a set on a Hotrod.
He widened the rear 18" spoke wheel about 4 inches, painted them black & installed the trim rings. It looked great. I wanted him to do a set for me for my 32 Tudor, but he became ill & had to decline. I'm telling you, tho, they looked fantastic, especially so, with wide modern radial blackwall tires. I know, not everyone's cup of tea, but for me, I loved the look. |
