cracked head
My Model A was overheating blowing water out he overflow tube I thought maybe I had a blown head gasket removed the head and it was cracked between #2 and 3 cylinders from the stud holes to the water holes in four places,
Also on the side directly across from the dist shaft hole there are to large water openings but none in the block to match up with and the new gasket has no holes either. Did they make different heads for different blocks and do you have to get the right gaskets also. I'm probably not making myself real clear but this is what I have. |

Re: cracked head
Heads are the same for all model a motors 1927-1931. Replace the head with a copper gasket and copper spray and proper torque sequence. Gaskets the same for stock motors and heads.

Re: cracked head
This may also me a good time to think about a high compression head.

Re: cracked head
Thanks to all who replied. I do have a Winfield head that I bought over 60 years ago I am putting it on. I do not know th CR of the head and the plug holes are recessed so the original copper strap wire will not reach have to make new ones the combustion chamber is a lot smaller but the valves seem to clear ok. It takes a smaller plug also, the one on it were Trojans #4 never heard of them.
