I haven't taken it apart. I took it off because of too much end play. I could see the shaft moving to the back and front. It didn't do it all the time, but I didn't like what I saw.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks everyone for the info. I have the red book but the info that you have given me isn't in it. I have a leakless water pump coming and I am not going to throw the old one away. I want to repair it and use for a backup. Johnny

Good for you, Shortdog! Save as many Model A parts as possible from the scrapper. It'll be good experience for you to rebuild your water pump as spare, whether you ever need it or not. Having gone through the pump, you will be better prepared down the road to analyze problems that may creep up with your new leakless pump. It won't be such a mystery once you become familiar with the internal guts and learn their order of assembly and function.

I got my leakless water pump in this afternoon and the fan went on like it should. I installed it on the car and will give it a test drive tomorrow.

AS I was putting the pump on it reminded we when I was a kid in Arkansas and how we kept our old cars running. In our toolbox was, 1/2 and 9/16 wench, crescent wench, hammer, pliers, two screw drivers and a roll of bailing wire. We also had a 5 gallon gas can with a Arkansa credit card. We had it just in case we went by where we parked the tractors for the day.

FWIW. I would not use a steel hammer on the shaft. Buy, borrow, steal a brass punch, this will take the abuse Vs the shaft. Still use a good sized hammer as described above to minimize the bounce.
