Waltham Watch with 1936 Ford logo Dial
I,m wondering if any of you know more about this Vanguard Waltham Pocket Watch. Searching on-line I found it was produce in 1936 at the Waltham Watch Co. in Waltham, Massachusetts. The serial number is 29377847 about the middle of 1936 production.
As you can see from the attached photo it has a 1936 V-8 Ford logo on the dial. My question is: was this a watch given to Ford dealers as a promotion or gift? Any information would be appreciated. Mark Last edited by Mark Slight; 08-12-2011 at 08:27 AM. Reason: photo |

So, Mark, you found my watch after all these years! I must have left it at your house back in '98! Thanks, buddy!

Mark, Is there any engraving on the watch. Usually give-a-ways had some sort of inscription. See enclosed "100 Club Watch"

Re: Waltham Watch with 1936 Ford logo Dial
Don, I've seen this watch, and there could be no engraving on the case, at least on the outside due to the elaborate design. Do you know about any such privately "given" watches intended for higher paid executives that wouldn't have been engraved? This is a top end watch, 23 jewel gold filled. The only sign of age is the patina on the dial!

Re: Waltham Watch with 1936 Ford logo Dial
A 23 jewel Waltham was an excellent quality watch. The watch companies did do custom work on their watches but other companies, called promotions companys, did too.
Many put out cheaper watches such as the dollar watches to pass around but a 23 jewel? That went to someone more important. They were giving out gold watches at retirement then. Maybe a VP or important dealer? I got my gold watch in 1999 (by asking) when I retired from Anheuser-Busch. It a gold Elgin with a closed case and the company emblem made about 1890. I was a VP. Great find! |
