Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
Did the Station Wagon have a body number or serial number (Not frame or motor #) stamped on the wood frame rail? If so, is it alpha, numeric or both?
Thanks............... |

Re: Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
The 150B bodies were manufactured by either Baker Raulang or Murray. There were tags associated with them but they weren’t numbered. One, and I can't remember the details, was on the passenger door frame and the other was located on the front seat frame if I remember correctly. I think that there is some disparity on where the tags have been found on the different cars. I'm sure some will chime in if I am not entirely correct.

Here's where I saw it on a Baker-Raulang SD body. Perhaps Murray didn't stamp them.

Re: Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
I had a '30 raulang that had a number stamped into the wood on the top of the driver side rear door. Had to open the door and look down.

Re: Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
I have only seen the engine number on mine and unaware if a frame number is present.
I have seen pictures of other wagons that had the body manufacturer tag attached on the lower section of the front doors. I'm not sure if they ever came like that from the coachbuilders though. |

Re: Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
there is an early ( jan) 29 Murray in town here, with a numbered Murray body tag on the front seat frame. My 30 Raulang has no such number.

My early 29 also has a body tag on the passenger side inside the seat riser.

Re: Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
I'll check the seat on the '29 in the shop tomorrow. Corrected a few things on the side curtain box today. I've never seen a Station Wagon side curtain box before, did the 30-31's use the same box? Bob

Re: Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
I just checked the tops of all of the doors--nothing there. No holes for a tag on the passenger door or any others for that matter. I will have to look at the seat box in more detail, but don't remember seeing anything there.

Looked under the seat of that '29 in the shop, nice brass Murray tag on the passenger side rail. Bob

Re: Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
I delayed posting an answer to this question as I wanted to check my memory as to where the number is located. I recall looking at my barn fresh and dilapidated 1930 Baker Raulang 150-B 15 years ago and finding the number in question. I looked through the Woodie Wagon newsletters and here is what is quoted in volumne 22, Issue 4, Oct-Dec. 1994.
"To date, two owners have reported numbers stamped on the rear side of the front floor cross sill (driver's side of center). The numbers are about 1/2" in height and both were found on Baker-Raulang 150-B's. The lowest number reported is F2863 with a June 1930 engine number owned by Clayton Giroux, Sacramento, Ca. and the other number is F2956 with an August 1930 engine number owned by Richard Hayes, Bellflower, CA. (Would appear that this feature might have been a part on Baker Raulang's production number control. Interestingly enough, approximately 90% of the 150-B's reported to the club are Baker Raulangs. Ed." I didn't find my number tonight but I looked before I found this info and it was hot and the flashlight wasn't working well but recall that my number was less than 10 from Clayton's. I know him and live near him so the bodies for both cars must have been shipped to the west coast for assembly. |

Re: Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
Is it possible the Baker-Raulang bodies were stamped in the wood while the Murray bodies used the metal body tags?
It would be interesting to see if there was any sort of standardization of numbering within the different body manufacturers. |

Re: Question for 30/31 Station Wagon Owners
The '29 Murray tag was a 3 digit number followed by 4 digits, what was the number Ford gave to the Station Wagon bodystyle? Bob

Wasn't it 150-A and 150-B?
